Minneapolis, Minnesota

A little over a month ago I took a trip to Minneapolis, Minnesota. I got there a day early and explored the city a bit. Here are some of my favorites from my trip. Enjoy!

One of my first stops was Fort Snelling. It was interesting, but I think the best part was the extremely blue skies overhead that day! They were fantastic!

The light rail was pretty neat. I took it from the airport all the way into downtown and back for $6bucks! Sadly enough the light rail didn't go to the art museum with the sculpture garden. So I walked about 10 blocks to get there with getting lost. Then someone told me I could use my light rail pass on buses. Great, thanks for the late info lady! So, first I went in a snapped this photo which was the reason I went all the way over there.
where's the ice cream?
On Thursdays the art museum had free entry so I went on in even though I typically dont like "modern art." This was no different. There was a few things in there I liked but nothing too awesome. A lot of crap. For instance, Hanging on a shelf was 10 mason jars. I was curious and got closer to read what was in them. Some man had been keeping all his hair(cuts, shaven) starting in 1967. He died in 1980something and it was an accumulation of everything including his fingernails, toenails and when he died he was cremated and put in there too. That is just not art! Its gross.

From there I went and took a tour of the Mill City Museum. Apparently Minneapolis used to play a major part in grains and flour. Pillsbury even started there.
In the museum they had children interactive things to do. My favorite activity was making my own cereal box cover.

After the self guided tour(which didn't last too long) there was a grain elevator to go up to the top levels so of course I did. Not the best way for looking at the city but this was the view,

After a night of dancing I made a pit stop to get this photo. I was expecting there to be a bit of traffic but there were only 6 or so cars that even went under me. Apparently this spot I chose was not the right spot to choose. I was pretty dumb to go out at 2am in a bad part of town wearing a skirt for a photo. Plus, it was actually COLD so I was freezing too. Yeah, lots of guys kept trying to talk to me. It was scary but I made it and I got this photo.
the city sleeps.

The reason I flew up was because a dear friend of Neil's jet crashed in Afghanistan and he and another didn't make it. It was an emotion filled weekend. Seeing Tom's wife Angie and their gorgeous 8 month twins was pretty hard. Luckily enough a friend from Goldsboro in our squadron also came up for it so it was nice having someone there too.

Meet Barbara, she's awesome.
I also met Tom's pilot from the B-course and his wife Aimee. They are super nice!

I felt a little weird taking photos at a funeral but I asked the guard and they said lots of people take photos so I shouldnt worry, that made me feel better about it. :)

The street art is cute. Someone out there loves Banksy.
